The Global Risk & Compliance Organization (GRC) is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner with all applicable regulatory expectations. GRC creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks.

As the Director of the Compliance Issues Management Program, you will play a pivotal role in developing and executing the firm's compliance risk governance initiatives. This role is responsible for working with Operational Risk on the Issues Management program and designing and implementing compliance’s remediation and restitution policy.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Develop a sustainable governance program for Compliance’s oversight of issues and management of remediation and restitution for all American Express colleagues
  • Serve as Compliance subject matter expert for Issues Management and remediation/restitution
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization to develop and execute program governance, including governance documentation and system implementation
  • Evaluate program effectiveness through the development of metrics and reporting
  • Incorporate relevant insights into program from industry practices, emerging trends, and regulatory developments
  • Support audits and exams as needed 

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in risk management within the financial services industry, specific expertise in issues management, remediation/restitution and compliance risk management preferred
  • Extreme attention to detail to ensure program policies, standards and procedures are applied consistently across all lines of defense
  • Excellent writing and project management skills
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of Issues Management and consumer banking remediation programs
  • Willingness to think outside the box, ask questions and raise concerns
  • Understanding of risk management principles, frameworks, and regulatory requirements
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks, including consumer protection (UDAAP, ECOA, FCRA, EFTA, TILA, etc.) and compliance management systems preferred
  • Experience communicating and working with risk professionals to socialize new requirements and problem solve
  • Experience developing processes, procedures and software/tooling for issues management and customer remediation programs
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across organizational levels
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change and innovation, leveraging technology and data analytics
  • Strong team player, and self-motivation with the ability to handle multiple work streams across geographical locations and ad-hoc tasks simultaneously
  • Professional regulatory compliance certification preferred (CRMC, CAMS, CCEP, CIP)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Compliance, Business, or a related field required; JD or Master’s degree preferred.

Salary Range: $130,000.00 to $205,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
