Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a talented Structural Engineer PE for immediate employment in our Tampa, FL office. This position will work within the Building & Places (B+P) organization and will provide engineering expertise in relation to Buildings, Facilities, and Site practices within B+P.  

Ideal candidates have a strong background and interest in vertical building development as well as the related Site development structures, having the ability to be part of a collaborative project team, be client-focused, and produce great works.  This individual will participate in all aspects from project identification through conceptual and final designs and providing support activities during construction.

AECOM’s Buildings + Places practice includes architecture, interiors, building engineering, workplace strategy, master planning, urban planning, civil engineering, and landscape architecture.  Our Tampa office includes all disciplines and regularly works across offices and the region.

The Structural Engineer position presents an opportunity for a candidate to excel in their expertise and contribute to growing our Structural Engineering B+P expertise and team, leadership growth, and mentorship.  The position will also provide for growth in client relationships and internal relationships across offices and region, developing as a lead engineer for projects.  AECOM actively supports continued education, training, and innovations in professional development. 

The job responsibilities for the position will include, but may not be limited, the following:

  • Serving as Structural Engineer on a variety of building and facility project types, including mid-to large size projects.  Role provides the opportunity to lead and/or grow into leading project engineering.
  • Working under supervision of the Department Manager/Project Manager, however able to organize workload and work independently on project-specific design tasks and with teams as assigned.
  • Able to communicate and present with Clients and discuss/explain technical solutions to project conditions.
  • Performing quality control reviews of work developed by others.
  • Providing technical input to studies and design assessments, with expertise for benefit of client and/or team.
  • Coordinate scope, schedule, budget in working with project managers and other senior level team members.
  • Mentoring and providing guidance to junior level staff for specific technical design aspects and professional service.
  • Provide direction to prescriptive and performance-based specifications.
  • Participating in development of technical proposals (including estimates for the engineering budget and schedule)
  • Reviewing permitting agency/engineering standards and regulations necessary to develop proper project design and permitting applications.
  • Work closely with other departments from the AECOM project team/office, including civil, building engineering, architecture, geotechnical, traffic engineers, Federal team, landscape architects, and surveyors to provide value and partner in project opportunities.
  • Participating and supporting site field investigations and construction related activities.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS in Engineering plus 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida (current FL PE License)
  • Previous experience with AutoCAD and Revit, as working platforms for delivering design.
  • Experience using structural design software such as ETABS, SAFE, SAP, and RISA.
  • Valid US Driver’s License required, as a condition of employment must pass AECOM's Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 8 years of experience in structural engineering and building development projects covering all aspects of building and site design – survey, design development, construction documents, construction administration, with direct experience in design and permitting of projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in roles/assignments leading projects, clients, and teams.
  • Demonstrated experience working on building and facility design projects for structural engineering.
  • Previous experience preparing calculations and design documents (reports, plans, specifications)
  • Ability to register for the Principles & Practice (PE) Exam within 1 year of hire.
  • Experience serving as structural engineering design on a variety of building types for vertical and horizontal engineering.
  • Achieved and practicing as PE.
  • Experience with permitting projects with local AHJs and required jurisdictions related to specific projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and organizing tasks and teams in a deadline intensive environment.
  • Experience working in large and/or complex projects/programs is beneficial.
  • Experience with construction phase services for projects (field reviews, RFI and shop drawing/submittal reviews, specifications, as-builts and record drawings, etc.)
